4a: Engaging in Reflective Practice

Through out my student teaching experience, I used the Danielson Framework Rubric that I was assessed on during my observations in order to track my personal growth as an educator and make adjustments to my teaching based on the feedback from my Seminar Instructor, Supervisor, and Mentor.

4b: Documenting Student Progress

In order to assist students in their learning, we created charts that encourage students to participate throughout the whole lesson with an incentive to receive a reward that the student decided on, allowing students to advocate for their needs and encourage engagement.

In order to inform families about a big change in their student's school day, I created a little introductory letter that students were able to take home to their parents.  Allowing parents to have my contact information and performing the gesture of an introduction allows families to see that I take this position seriously and want the families to have trust in me as we complete the school year.

I was lucky enough to experience learning amongst other amazing dance educators at the National Dance Educators Organization (NDEO) in 2024 hosted in Seattle, Washington.  Here, I was able to grow my pedagogical sense of self along with joining seminars that would assist my school community at my placement.

As students start preparing for the upcoming show, I have provided them with studio space to rehearse their student-choreographed routines. I have also continued supporting the Dance Troupe students who come during Morning Club to rehearse and refine their dances in preparation for show in June. During this time, I have been able to communicate with students and families about the importance of the show, the need for consistent attendance at rehearsals, and the value of having support at home to encourage their child’s growth in dance.
